8 European Christmas markets cheaper than Edinburgh — Edinburgh's central hotels hit £220/night in December. We costed up flights + hotel + 2 nights for each: (1) Krakow £148pp — biggest gluhwein market in central Europe. (2) Tallinn £165pp — medieval old town, Ryanair from Stansted. (3) Riga £172pp — quieter than Tallinn, same look. (4) Wroclaw £155pp — Poland's underrated Christmas city, gnome statues everywhere. (5) Budapest £189pp — thermal baths AND markets in same trip. (6) Strasbourg £198pp — the OG French Christmas market. (7) Bratislava £174pp — 1hr train from Vienna, fraction of the price. (8) Sofia £158pp — December wildcard, Wizz Air from Luton. We name the dates, the airports and the bookable hotels. Ranks for: 'cheap Christmas market break', 'Edinburgh Christmas alternative', 'European Christmas markets 2026'.
