Why we like it
Brno was named European Capital of Christmas in 2024 and spreads its markets across the whole old town. Zelný trh (the Vegetable Market) and Moravské náměstí, with its ice rink and big wheel, open on 13 November. The main market on náměstí Svobody, Dominikánské náměstí and the Old Town Hall courtyard open on 27 November, the same day the big tree on Svobody is lit. It's far quieter and cheaper than Prague or Vienna. Add Špilberk Castle, the bone-lined ossuary under St James's Church and a glass of Moravian wine, and a £30 flight makes it a very cheap festive weekend.

How to book
Search Stansted to Brno on your weekend; the £30 and £38 fares are for Friday to Monday trips, and other dates run until 18 January 2027. Book the hotel separately for the same nights. Flights and hotel booked separately are not an ATOL package, so take out travel insurance. The smaller markets stay open until 31 December, but the main squares close on 23 December.
