Need a holiday this summer but didn't book in January? Welcome to the club. Here's how to find genuine last-minute summer holiday deals from the UK — and the destinations that actually drop in price rather than getting more expensive.
The headline rule
Last-minute prices fall when there's unsold inventory — empty hotel rooms, unsold plane seats. They rise when school holidays start and supply hits a wall. So:
- Before school's out (until ~22 July): genuine bargains. Tour operators discount aggressively.
- During school holidays (late July - early Sept): "last minute" usually means premium pricing. Avoid unless flexible on destination.
- After August Bank Holiday: prices crash again. Sept is the secret best month.
Best destinations for last-minute deals
1. Turkey — undisputed king of last-minute value
Turkey has more unsold all-inclusive inventory than anywhere in Europe in summer 2026. Antalya, Bodrum, Marmaris consistently produce £400-600 all-inclusive weeks for couples, including flights, two weeks before departure.
2. Tunisia — back in the game
Tunisia is back on most UK tour operators (TUI, easyJet Holidays). Quality has improved, prices are aggressive. Sousse and Hammamet for families; Djerba for couples.
3. Greek Islands (non-Santorini/Mykonos)
Kos, Corfu, Rhodes, Zante — solid last-minute deals from ~£499 all-inclusive in shoulder weeks. Avoid Santorini and Mykonos for last-minute (they don't drop).
4. Bulgaria — surprise value pick
Sunny Beach and Golden Sands offer some of the cheapest beach weeks in Europe. UK families have been quietly discovering it since 2022.
5. Costa del Sol & Costa Blanca
Drive-to-resort Spain still produces solid deals. Benidorm, Torremolinos, Fuengirola, Salou — week packages from £350-500 in non-peak weeks.

Where NOT to look for last-minute bargains
- Italy — prices rise as departure approaches. Lake Garda, Sorrento, Sicily all hold price.
- France — Riviera doesn't discount. Camping does.
- Croatia — Dalmatian coast is premium-priced and demand stays high through Sept.
- Iceland — never discounts.
- Mainland Spain cities (Madrid, Barcelona, Seville) — city break pricing not seasonal.
Where the deals live
- TUI last-minute — tui.co.uk/last-minute. Daily updated.
- Jet2holidays last-minute board — they often clear seats 14-21 days before.
- loveholidays.com — wide tour-operator aggregator. Their flash sales are real.
- On the Beach — strong on Turkey + Bulgaria.
- lastminute.com — name on the tin; honest aggregator.
Tip: when you find a deal you like, book the same day. Last-minute deals don't survive overnight — they're literally unsold inventory and someone else will take it.
The single biggest hack: cashback on the booking
Whatever deal you book, route through a cashback site. TopCashback consistently offers 4-8% on TUI, Jet2, lastminute.com and loveholidays. That's £30-80 back on a £1,000 holiday. Free. Full guide here.
FAQ
How last-minute is "last minute"?
Genuinely 1-21 days before departure. The deepest discounts tend to be 7-14 days out. Anything less than 7 days and you're paying premium for whatever's left.
Are last-minute holidays cheaper than booking early?
Only outside school holidays. During school holidays (late July to early September), early-bird almost always wins. Outside school holidays, last-minute usually wins on package holidays — but rarely on flights alone.
Is it safe to book last-minute?
Yes if you use ATOL-protected tour operators (TUI, Jet2, loveholidays, easyJet Holidays). Avoid unfamiliar travel sites for last-minute bookings — if they collapse you lose the money.
