SAS is pricing flights to Svalbard from £230 return this winter. If you've been eyeing the Arctic but baulked at the cost, this is your window.
The deal
Return flights to Longyearbyen on SAS, available September through February. Prices start at £230 per person. You're looking at proper winter — which means polar night, frozen fjords, and genuine northern lights season (though sightings are never guaranteed).
Why we like it
Svalbard doesn't come cheap, and neither do flights there normally. At this price, you're covering the transport part of an Arctic adventure without taking out a second mortgage. Winter is the right time if you want aurora chasing; summer tourists get midnight sun but miss the lights entirely.
That said: this is flights only. Dog sledding, ice hotels, and the rest of the Arctic experience cost extra — budget accordingly. You'll also need warm kit you may have to buy, and Svalbard itself isn't budget accommodation territory. Polar bear warnings are real, not marketing fluff.
How to book
Head to SAS's website and search Longyearbyen from your nearest UK airport. Filter for the September to February window and sort by price. Availability at this price point will thin quickly, so check soon if this appeals.
