Goodwood Festival of Speed + Revival 2026: the petrolhead's pilgrimage guide

Goodwood runs two unmissable weekends: Festival of Speed in early July (every car in motoring history doing the hillclimb, including F1 demos, hypercars and rally legends) and the Revival in September (1948-1966 historic racing, period dress, lawnmower racing in tweed). Different vibes, same insane car-fan energy. Chichester (5 miles south) is your base.

The playbook

Festival of Speed vs Revival

Festival of Speed = noise, hypercars, F1, Lewis Hamilton demoing a Mercedes, modern motorsport meets car culture. Revival = 1948-1966 only, full period dress, vintage planes, historic racing on the actual Goodwood Circuit. Both are unforgettable but completely different days.

Best Festival of Speed day

Sunday gets the F1 demo runs and the supercar shootout times. Saturday is quieter and slightly cheaper. Friday is for industry/press but tickets are public — best for paddock photos.

Revival dress code

Not optional. Period 1940s-60s only. Suits, fedoras, ties for men. Tea dresses, hats, gloves for women. Hire from Vintage Hire UK or eBay an outfit for £50 — you'll get more compliments at Revival than at your own wedding.

Where to stay

Chichester (5 mi) for the city. Bosham or West Wittering (10 mi) for the seaside-weekend angle. Premier Inn Chichester from £75 advance rate. Avoid driving on Sunday afternoon — Goodwood traffic is biblical.

Get hotels booked — they go first

For any UK signature event, the hotel pool is fixed and the demand spikes hard. Book a free-cancellation rate now (the best central hotels around Chichester fill up 9+ months out) then drop it if you find better. Booking.com's genuine free-cancellation lets you do this without losing anything.

Book the event experience

Goodwood Festival of Speed Sunday ticket + paddock access via GetYourGuide is usually within 5% of the face-value direct price and lets you cancel up to 24h before. Worth it for the flexibility alone if anything changes.
