Latitude Festival at Henham Park: Where to Stay

Latitude Festival: on-site camping or seaside hotels in Southwold. Here's where to sleep.

Latitude Festival at Henham Park: Where to Stay

Latitude Festival fills Henham Park with 25,000 people every summer, and most of them camp. But you don't have to. Book accommodation early—tickets go on sale in spring, and hotel rooms in nearby Southwold sell out by June. On-site camping ranges from £40–£120 per pitch depending on the field; off-site, a double room in Beccles or Halesworth runs £70–£100, while Southwold seafront hotels start at £120. The one timing rule: secure your spot by mid-July, when festival momentum peaks and mid-range options vanish.

Where to stay

Your choice sits on a spectrum. Henham Park itself has five camping zones: the traditional Standard field, family-oriented plots with play areas, a car-free Quiet zone, and the boutique Tangerine Fields with glamping and better facilities. If you'd rather not camp, Beccles and Halesworth are both 20–30 minutes' drive south and west, filled with family-run B&Bs and village pubs offering rooms. Southwold, 25 minutes south on the coast, has the festival's only premium hotel option and a strong walking culture. Norwich, 40 minutes north, suits early arrivals or late departures and has the most train connections.

1. On-site camping: Standard field

The largest zone at Henham Park, Standard camping is where most first-timers land. Pitches cost £50–£65 for a small tent, rising to £100+ for a car pitch. It's a working field: muddy in rain, dusty if hot, with long queues for toilets on Thursday evenings. The trade-off is zero commute to the main stage—you're in the festival within a five-minute walk. Solo campers and groups mix freely here. Bring a proper tent (not a pop-up), a torch, and waterproofs; groundsheet is essential. This field creates the festival's social spine; you'll meet your camping neighbours on night one and share a beer with them by Sunday.

2. On-site camping: Family field

Geared toward parents with children under 12, the Family field has marked play zones, quieter enforcement after 11 p.m., and parking closer to the field entrance. Pitches are £60–£90 and the atmosphere is deliberately less hedonistic than Standard. Kids' entertainment runs alongside the main programme, and there's a dedicated family hub with activities. On-site childcare options exist most years. Families report feeling safer and more rested here. Downside: you're still camping, so early mornings and rain are part of the deal. Toilets and showers are cleaner than Standard but still basic. Book this field by April if you have children; it fills fastest.

3. On-site camping: Quiet and Tangerine Fields

Quiet camping (£60–£80) enforces a 10 p.m. cutoff on music and gatherings—serious sleep, minimal noise pollution. It appeals to older festivalgoers and anyone noise-sensitive. Tangerine Fields (£110–£150) is Latitude's glamping option: pre-erected bell tents or pods with proper beds, solar lighting, and a small bar. It's still camping (shared facilities, no en-suite), but you sleep under canvas rather than in one. Tangerine Fields creates its own micro-community and books out by May. Neither field is far from the main stage, but both trade volume for atmosphere.

4. Beccles

A market town 22 miles south of Henham Park, Beccles has three or four small hotels and a dozen B&Bs scattered around its Norman clock tower. The drive is 30–35 minutes via A145, longer if roads are busy on Friday. Doubles cost £75–£110 per night. The Saltash Mill, a converted watermill B&B on the river, is popular with festival returnees. Pubs like The King's Head offer simple rooms above the bar. You get a hot shower and proper bed, but you'll miss the late-night festival buzz and need to factor in parking (£5–£10 at the site). Beccles works for non-campers who don't want seaside prices.

5. Halesworth

West of Beccles, Halesworth is smaller and quieter, 25 miles and 28 minutes from Henham Park. There's less accommodation—one small hotel (The Swan) and five B&Bs—but it's cheaper (£65–£95 per room) and feels less crowded. The Swan is a traditional coaching inn with a pub downstairs; rooms are basic but reliable. Halesworth suits couples or small groups wanting a country-pub vibe without seaside tourist infrastructure. It's further than Beccles from the festival site, so only book here if you're comfortable with a 30-minute drive both ways.

6. Southwold

The largest hotel base, Southwold sits 25 miles south on the Suffolk coast. It's a Victorian seaside town with a pier, seafront promenade, and gastropub culture. Hotels like Adnams The Southwold Hotel (the town's flagship, £140–£180) and smaller independents like The Crown offer comfort and atmosphere. Expect to pay £120–£200 for a double. The drive to Henham Park is 30–35 minutes via A145. Southwold is ideal if you want hotel amenities, but it's pricey and books out early; many rooms are snapped up by July. It also shifts festival energy away from the site—you'll sleep well but miss the late-stage culture.

7. Norwich

Norfolk's capital, 40 miles and 50 minutes north, has chain hotels (Travelodge, Premier Inn from £60–£90) and independents (The Maids Head, a four-star historic hotel, from £110). It makes sense only if you're arriving very early or leaving very late, or if you're combining Latitude with other Norwich plans. Train connections to London are excellent, but you'll spend time commuting both ways. Norwich is a fallback, not a first choice.

Getting there + getting back

If you're camping, arrive Thursday afternoon to secure a good pitch; Friday is workable but pitches are tighter. The site has 5,000+ car parking spaces; parking is included with camping but costs £20–£30 for day visitors. The nearest train station is Darsham (13 miles), served by trains from London Liverpool Street and Norwich; a taxi or shuttle bus costs £15–£25 one-way. The last trains out on Sunday run around 9–10 p.m., so if you're not camping, check timings before booking a hotel. If driving, fill up petrol before arriving; the nearest large supermarket is 10 miles away.

When to book

Latitude typically announces dates in autumn, with tickets on sale by January. Accommodation opens for booking around the same time. On-site camping pitches drop in price the further out you book (early March is cheapest at around 15% discount). By mid-June, Standard camping prices have risen and Family camping is 80% full. Hotel rooms in Southwold are gone by late June; Beccles and Halesworth B&Bs hold availability longest, usually until late July. The last-minute window (late July to mid-August) is expensive and patchy. Book by end of April for peace of mind.

Local food + drink

If you're staying off-site in Beccles, The King's Head serves proper pub food (pies, pints, roasts). In Halesworth, The Swan does a decent lunch. Southwold's The Crown and nearby Harbour Inn are both strong for dinner. None are fancy, but all suit festivalgoers on a break from the site. Southwold also has fish-and-chip spots and a good deli (Southwold Deli & Bakery). The festival site itself has adequate food vendors, so you're not missing out eating off-site.
