Park Güell Barcelona: Tickets & What to Know

Park Güell is Antoni Gaudí's dreamlike hillside park on Carmel Hill in Barcelona, and one of the city's most photographed sights. It's important to understand one thing before you go: only the central Monumental Zone is ticketed and timed. The wider woodland park that surrounds it is free to enter, so you don't need a ticket to simply walk in the grounds — but the famous Gaudí features are all inside the paid area.

Where it is

Park Güell sits on Carmel Hill, in the Gràcia district, bordering the La Salut and El Carmel neighbourhoods. The main entrance is on Carrer d'Olot, at the junction with Carrer de Larrard (official address: Carrer d'Olot 7, 08024 Barcelona). There's a second entrance on Carretera del Carmel, which is the coach park and escalators side.

What to see

The ticketed Monumental Zone is where Gaudí's UNESCO-listed masterpieces are concentrated:

  • The mosaic-tiled Dragon Stairway, guarded by the famous mosaic salamander (often called "the dragon").
  • The long, serpentine tiled terrace bench that curves around the main square.
  • The Hypostyle Room, a hall of columns beneath the terrace.
  • Panoramic views over Barcelona all the way to the sea from Carmel Hill.

Surrounding all of this is a large, free woodland and park zone — pleasant to wander, but the highlights above are inside the paid enclosure.

Skip-the-line vs guided tour

Entry to the Monumental Zone is timed and capacity-capped at around 1,400 visitors per hour, so slots regularly sell out and advance booking is strongly advised. When you book, there are two broad routes:

  • Fast-track / skip-the-line entry: Best if you want to explore at your own pace and just need guaranteed timed admission without queueing at the ticket desk.
  • Guided tour with entry included: Most of the third-party options — including those on GetYourGuide — bundle admission into a guided tour. You get the context and history of Gaudí's design, with the entrance ticket included in the price. The trade-off is less freedom to linger and a set start time to keep.

Unlike some attractions, third-party entry to Park Güell is legitimate and authorized — visitors booking through reputable resellers are not refused at the door. Just be aware that many listings are guided tours rather than a pure entry-only ticket, so check exactly what's included before you book. General admission is 18€.

Book Park Güell tickets & tours

GetYourGuide has the widest choice for Park Güell — GYG genuinely sells Park Güell entry — real skip-the-line access to the Monumental Zone. Most products are guided tours with Monumental Zone admission included (e.g. "Skip-the-Line Ticket and Guided Tour", "Guided Tour with Entry", "Fast-Track Ticket" tours); admission is bundled into the tour price. Unlike Anne Frank House, third-party entry here is legitimate and authorized — visitors are NOT refused at the door., most with free cancellation. Check live prices:

Insider tips

  • Book your timed slot well ahead — capacity is limited and popular times sell out.
  • Wear comfortable shoes: the site is on a hill with steep inclines and plenty of steps.
  • You don't need a ticket to enjoy the free surrounding woodland, but you do for the Dragon Stairway, terrace bench and Hypostyle Room.
  • Early morning or late afternoon slots tend to be calmer and better for photos and light.

Is it worth it?

Yes — for Gaudí fans and first-time visitors, the Monumental Zone is a genuine highlight, and the views over Barcelona are worth the climb alone. Just go in with clear expectations: it's a compact ticketed area within a larger free park, and it can be busy. Booking a timed slot ahead makes the whole visit smoother.

FAQs

Do I need a ticket to enter Park Güell?
You need a timed ticket only for the Monumental Zone, where Gaudí's main features are. The wider surrounding park and woodland are free to walk into.

How do I get to Park Güell?
Take Metro L3 (green line) to Vallcarca, then ride the outdoor escalators up the hill, or to Lesseps followed by a roughly 15–20 minute uphill walk. Alternatively, Metro L4 to Alfons X then bus 116 to the entrance, or the Bus Güell shuttle if you've booked your ticket online in advance. Expect steep inclines.

Are third-party tickets and tours valid?
Yes. Unlike some attractions, authorized resellers such as GetYourGuide legitimately provide skip-the-line access, with admission usually bundled into a guided tour. Visitors are not turned away at the door.
