Direct trains from London Waterloo to Ascot, 52 minutes. Book 12 weeks ahead for off-peak advance returns at £18.50 each way. Walk-up race-day fares are £42.50 return. It's an 8-minute walk from Ascot station to the racecourse.
Alternative routes if you're coming from elsewhere:
- Reading + bus 702: 1 hour 5 minutes, from £12 train + £4 bus — useful if you're west of London.
- Heathrow Terminal 5 + Uber: 25 minutes, around £35 — worth it if you're extending the trip with a holiday.
Why we like it
The Waterloo direct route is genuinely straightforward and cheap if you plan ahead. Race day itself is mental — queues pile up from 10am — so catch the 9.21 or earlier if you're not staying overnight.
Driving means on-course parking only (no town-centre options), at £35 pre-booked. Those car park spaces sell out by April, so it's not a reliable backup plan. Train wins on cost, stress, and sobriety.
